What kind of content gets downvoted?

The primary function of downvote feature is to signal that a post or comment should receive less visibility. Reasons for downvoting may include:

  1. Low-quality content: Posts or comments that are deemed to lack substance or that are poorly written.
  2. Off-topic content: Posts or comments that do not relate to the discussion or the community at hand.

Who can downvote?

At Frontpage, we strive to maintain high-quality discussions and a welcoming community. The privilege of downvoting is reserved for top contributors who are dedicated to upholding these values. If you are interested in contributing to our community's quality control efforts, we encourage you to demonstrate your expertise and originality through your posts and comments. Our team will review your contributions and consider granting you the downvoting privilege. Thank you for your commitment to making Frontpage a better place for all.

Etiquette to be followed when using downvote

Please Don’t

  1. Downvote an otherwise acceptable post because you don't personally like it. Think before you downvote and take a moment to ensure you're downvoting someone because they are not contributing to the community dialogue or discussion. If you simply take a moment to stop, think and examine your reasons for downvoting, rather than doing so out of an emotional reaction, you will ensure that your downvotes are given for good reasons.
  2. Downvote based just on the person that posted it. Don't upvote or downvote comments and posts just because the poster's username is familiar to you. Make your vote based on the content.
  3. Mass downvote someone else's posts. If it really is the content you have a problem with (as opposed to the person), by all means vote it down when you come upon it. But don't go out of your way to seek out an enemy's posts.

Please Do

  1. Remember the human. When you communicate online, all you see is a computer screen. When talking to someone you might want to ask yourself "Would I say it to the person's face?" or "Would I get jumped if I said this to a buddy?"
  2. Consider posting constructive criticism / an explanation when you downvote something, and do so carefully and tactfully.

Please keep in mind that downvoting is used to promote high-quality content and discourage low-quality content, not to express disagreement or dislike.
